They say the Salish Sea has its own guardian—a man who can smell a diesel leak from a mile away, who can coax a stubborn windlass into working with nothing but a screwdriver and a stern look, and who never, ever forgets to check the bilge. His name? Rob.
Born with saltwater in his veins and a compass for a heart, Rob grew up knowing which way the wind blew—literally. As a boy, he could rig a mainsail faster than most folks could toast a sandwich. By the time he was a man, he’d battled the icy swells of the Bering Sea, tamed the tangled guts of high-end yacht systems, and earned the trust of captains from Puget Sound to points unknown.
One fateful day, Rob decided to hang his own shingle and founded Salish Yachting Solutions—a safe harbor for boaters in distress. With ABYC certification in one hand and decades of industry connections and knowhow, he set out to ensure no vessel in his waters would suffer from neglect, bad advice, or limp coffee.
When he’s not out saving the day, Rob sails with his wife Sharene and their kids, charting courses to secret anchorages and outrunning squalls just for fun.
Some call him a marine technician. Others call him a yacht whisperer. But around here, he’s simply known as… Chief of the Boat.
Our love for the ocean runs deep—it's truly in our roots. Rob took some of his very first steps aboard a sailboat, and Sharene spent her second night in the world sleeping on the same boat we now cruise on together as a family today. We’re now raising the next generation of boaters with a deep respect and love for the Salish Sea, sharing with them the joy, freedom, and adventure that life on the water brings. One day, we look forward to making the “big left turn” and exploring all the ocean has to offer.
Professionally, Rob’s career in the marine industry began over 20 years ago with hands-on work—applying bottom paint and pulling props. From there, he steadily advanced through the field, installing stabilizers and complex mechanical systems on Selene Yachts, and serving as Service Manager at Wesmar, where he provided technical support for mechanical and sonar systems. He later helped complete the build of the 92' Aleutian yacht Miss Lisa in Tacoma, and even spent a couple of seasons fishing for flatfish and Pacific cod in the Bering Sea and North Pacific Ocean.
Returning to the Pacific Northwest, Rob became General Manager at Bow to Stern Detailing before moving on to work under Grant Macdonald at Yacht Services. Over the next 12 years, he again worked through the ranks, deepened his knowledge, refined his technical skills, and built lasting relationships with yacht owners and industry professionals. Through it all, his passion remained true: helping boat owners achieve the experience they’ve always dreamed of, while delivering a gold-standard level of service through meticulous care and craftsmanship, with the mantra of: "If you have done right by the boat, you will have done right by the client."
At Salish Yachting Solutions, we bring together a lifelong connection to the sea and decades of industry experience to ensure your time on the water is effortless, enjoyable, and exceptional.
